For All Her Success, Why Nikki Bella Remains Becky Lynch’s Unfinished Business

(Left) Becky Lynch - (Right) Nikki Bella

Becky Lynch has done it all. “The Man” has main-evented WrestleMania, held every major championship, became longest-reigning RAW Women’s Champion graced magazine covers, and built a brand that’s known worldwide.

She’s credited as a foundational pillar of WWE’s Women’s Revolution, shattering stereotypes and elevating the game for an entire generation.

Yet, for all her undeniable success, there remains one crucial piece of her story, one symbolic rival, that represents Becky Lynch’s unfinished businessNikki Bella.

As their huge bout at Clash in Paris on August 31 gets closer, it’s clear this isn’t just another date on the calendar.

This is about finishing the story, a final showdown between two women who built two very different eras, and a chance for a superstar to leave absolutely no doubt about her legacy.

The Clash of Eras: Revolution vs. Divas

To really get why this match is such a big deal, you have to forget the personal drama for a second and think about what these two women stand for. Nikki Bella is the undisputed queen of the “Divas Era.”

That was a time all about reality TV shows, red carpets, and glamour. The “Divas Championship,” with its pink butterfly design, pretty much said it all. Nikki was a huge star in that world, and she was incredibly successful at it.

Then you have Becky Lynch, who came in like a wrecking ball, leading the “Women’s Revolution.” Her whole mission was to tear down that “Diva” image.

She wanted the focus to be on what happened in the ring. Pure skill, tough fights, and groundbreaking matches that could steal the show.

Speaking to Katie Hannon at RTÉ – IRELAND’S NATIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE MEDIA, Becky Lynch explained her journey:

“I’ve been lucky enough to be in a spot where I’ve been able to change the way people view women in sports or in sports entertainment. I was the first woman to main-event WrestleMania, which is our big event of the year. That’s like our Super Bowl, and in 35 years, it had never been done before. I don’t think anybody thought it was ever going to be done, it was just the position that females were I thought point and not due to their own inability but just culture, wrestling culture at the time, and women were seen as decorations and attractions, um usually there would be one token women’s match on card, and and and we’ve thrown all at the window.” (Timestamp: 0:26-1:25)

On the other side, Nikki Bella has also reflected on the transition from the Divas Era to the Women’s Evolution. Speaking to Jim Alexander on Reel Talker, she said:

“It’s like being a proud mom, it’s like you can raise your kids a certain way arrayed and then when they they they accomplish something like you you show them your footsteps, you give them the path and when they take that on it’s like passing a torch, you just watch with such pride and what I feel when I watch the women, it just makes me so proud that all of my hard work for 12 years there meant something and I made a change and it continues to make a change.” (Timestamp: 2:26-2:48)

A Missing Notch on the Belt

If you look at Becky’s resume, it’s packed with legendary wins. She’s beaten everyone from Ronda Rousey to her fellow Four Horsewomen, Charlotte Flair and Bayley, on the biggest stages possible.

She has cemented her spot at the top. But there’s a name that’s not on that list of conquered rivals from a past era: Nikki Bella.

They’ve crossed paths, sure, but there was never that one epic, final match where Becky, as “The Man,” proved she was definitively on another level than the top star who came before her.

For a competitor like Becky, who strives to be the absolute best, that’s not just a small detail. This isn’t just about getting another win; it’s about closing a chapter for good.

The Ultimate Paris Showdown

And the fact that this showdown is happening in Paris just makes the stakes even higher.

WWE doesn’t do these massive international stadium shows all the time, so when they do, it feels like a big deal. For Lynch to face Nikki on a global stage like this gives the match a special kind of energy.

For Becky Lynch, winning here isn’t about a championship. It’s about something bigger:

  • Her Legacy: A clean, decisive win over the former face of the company proves that Becky’s era is the era that truly matters.
  • Closing the Book: It would be the final, undeniable statement that the Women’s Revolution didn’t just start a new chapter; it won the whole book.
  • Proving Her Point: For “The Man” herself, it’s a chance to show the world that her way—the path of grit and in-ring excellence—was not just a different path, but the better one.

The Final Chapter

Becky Lynch’s entire career has been a fight. It’s been a fight for respect, a battle for the main event, and a fight to prove every single one of her doubters wrong.

She has the titles, the merchandise sales, and the sold-out arenas to prove she won that fight.

But the ghost of the “Divas Era,” with Nikki Bella as its most famous face, still lingers. A victory in Paris would be more than just another win.

It would be the final piece of the puzzle, the ultimate validation of her revolution, and the definitive statement that her era, the era of “The Man,” reigns supreme.
